Largest and most superficial Cervical muscles.


ORIGIN

  1. STERNAL HEAD
  2. CLAVICULAR HEAD

STERNAL HEAD : Manubram sterni CLAVICULAR HEAD: Medial 3rd of the clavicle


INSERTION

  • Later surface of MASTOID PROCESS
  • Lateral half of SUPERIOR NUCHAL LINE

NERVE SUPPLY

  • Spinal Accessory nerve supplies motor plexus
  • Cervical plexus supplies sensation from the ventral primary rani of C2 and C3

ARTERIAL SUPPLY

Branches of EXTERNAL CAROTID artery such as:

  1. Superior thyroid artery

2.Occipital artery


  • CLINICAL FUNCTION
  • Rotate the head to the opposite side or obliquely rotate the head
  • Flex the neck
